That is a kind request. The aisle should not be a row of screens. You want faces when you walk in, not a hundred people filming the first kiss.
Then a second thought shows up. If the phones stay down, who takes the pictures?
A photographer, if you have one, still can. Keep them. They are there for the light, the order of service, the portraits you actually want. Guests putting phones away is not a reason to send them home.
A phone-free ceremony is not the same as a wedding with no photos. The vows are one hour. The day is the doorway, the table that will not sit down, the dance that starts before anyone meant it to. Those pictures live in pockets. They do not have to be taken while you speak.
